Meigs County Quick Facts
Meigs County Sheriff and Jail Records
The Meigs County Sheriff's Office is the main source for inmate population data in the county. The jail sits at 104 East 2nd Street in Pomeroy, Ohio. It holds both male and female inmates who are waiting for trial, serving short sentences, or set for transfer to other facilities. The sheriff posts a current inmate list on the jail page as a downloadable PDF. This file shows names, charges, booking dates, and other custody details. You can also call the non-emergency line at 740-992-6663 for help with a specific person.
The jail has rules for personal property. Families can drop off approved items, but the list of what is allowed is strict. Staff check all items before they go to an inmate. This stops contraband from getting into the facility. If you bring something that is not on the approved list, it gets sent back.
Under ORC Section 341.01, the sheriff has full charge of the county jail. That means all booking, housing, and release decisions go through the sheriff's office. The jail also posts sheriff sale info and handles concealed carry permits on the same site.
Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail Inmate Roster
Meigs County shares the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail with Athens, Hocking, Morgan, Perry, and Vinton Counties. This facility opened in April 1998 and holds up to 226 inmates. It sits at 16677 Riverside Drive in Nelsonville, Ohio. The regional model lets smaller counties split the cost of running a modern jail. Judges, sheriffs, and commissioners from all six counties manage the facility together.
The online roster runs on the JDS system. It shows each inmate's jail ID, photo, name, charges, court info, current status, and total bail. The page stamps the run date and time so you know how fresh the data is. You can sort by county to find just the Meigs County inmates in the facility.

Funds go into inmate commissary accounts in a few ways. You can use money orders or cash at the jail lobby in Nelsonville. Online deposits work through Access Corrections. These funds let inmates buy hygiene products, snacks, and other items from the commissary. Mail goes to the inmate's name at the regional jail address. All letters are opened and checked for contraband before delivery.

Ohio Inmate Records and Public Access
Ohio's public records law under ORC Section 149.43 gives people the right to see most government records. That includes jail rosters, booking logs, and inmate status reports. Some data stays private to protect victims or ongoing cases. But names, charges, mugshots, and custody status are all fair game for public release. The Meigs County Sheriff follows these rules when posting the roster online.
State prison records fall under ORC Section 5120.21. If someone from Meigs County goes to a state facility, the ODRC Offender Search Portal tracks them. This free tool shows which prison they are in, their sentence length, and release dates. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction manages every state prison in Ohio.
Victims can register for alerts through the Ohio Attorney General's Victim Services program. This sends a notice when an inmate's custody status changes. Under ORC Section 2929.37, counties may charge inmates for the cost of their stay. And ORC Section 2967.01 defines key terms like judicial release and transitional control that you may see in an inmate's file.
