The Portage County Corrections Division runs the jail at 8240 Infirmary Road, Ravenna, Ohio. The facility opened in May 1995 as a 24-hour full-service jail. It has a capacity of 241 inmates and holds both men and women. All bonds can be paid at the Clerk of Courts office in the Ravenna Courthouse, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Call the clerk at 330-297-3644 for bond questions. Municipal Court bonds can also be paid at the jail after 5:00 PM on weekdays or any time on weekends.

Inmate mail must go through the U.S. Postal Service. All incoming mail is opened and checked for contraband. The jail does not accept packages for inmates, and they will be sent back. Prohibited items in mail include nude or partially nude photos, Polaroid pictures, writing materials like paper, cards, stamps or envelopes, books, pamphlets, magazines, or newspapers. Mail with lipstick, perfume, stickers, glitter, glue, tape, or unknown substances will also be censored. Under ORC Section 341.01, the sheriff sets all mail policies for the jail.

Portage County Jail Inmate Population Programs
The Portage County Jail runs several programs. The Inmate Sewing Program started in March 2011. Inmates make all the jail uniforms. A sewing instructor comes three times a week to teach inmates how to use different sewing machines. This gives inmates real skills they can use after release.
The Inmate Work Program puts inmates to work on general cleaning, mowing, washing and waxing county vehicles, carpentry projects, and maintaining the Justice Center. Some inmates work at other non-profit organizations in the county. These programs let inmates give back to the community while building work habits.
